First Grade

Mrs. DiBello and Mrs. Hart (Ms. Duff)

Welcome to FIRST GRADE! We hope you are as excited about this upcoming school year as we are! You are the most important person in your child’s life and we ask that we work together to ensure their success in the classroom. Working together as a team, we are confident we can help your child achieve success! Here are a few things that we think you will find helpful to start the year.

Lake Par Procedures

School starts at 8:55am and ends at 3:25pm each day with a staggered dismissal for 1st grade at 3:20. In the morning, the students will come directly into the school and to our classroom.  At the end of the day, dismissal will take place from the kindergarten door.  Students will high-five me and be dismissed to you one at a time.  *If you are picking up by car, please remain in your car at all times.  As your car reaches the sidewalk, students will be dismissed to the sidewalk to get in the car safely.

Snack Time

New this year, schools are provided with free breakfast that will be served during our morning snack time around 10:00.  We will eat outside, weather pending, and enjoy a fun lesson.  If you’d prefer to provide your child with their own snack, please send healthy food items (such as 100 calorie snack packs, pretzels, carrot sticks, an apple, etc.) that can be easily eaten outside while he or she is working.  Please remember that it is a quick snack and students will eat lunch at 12:00.  I will also provide students with a snack time on early dismissal days.  The school is “peanut free” during snack time so please do not send ANY peanut products. I am aware of all allergies within our classroom.

Birthdays

Birthdays are always an exciting time for our students.  Every student may celebrate in school with a birthday crown, pencil, bookmark and a very special birthday GoNoodle to start the day.  Students will only be allowed to pass-out birthday party invitations if there is one for each student and outside goody-bags are no longer permitted.

Take Home Folder

Our P.T.A. has generously supplied each student with a take home folder which is to be brought home and returned to school daily.  If you have any messages for the school or myself, please put them in this folder and it will be monitored daily.

Homework

Students will have homework Monday through Thursday and will be homework free on “Fabulous Friday”.  Please make sure your child completes their homework each night.

Here are some helpful homework tips, which would be beneficial to read with your child, as we will also be discussing them in school.

Homework Tips:

  1. Bring home everything needed.

  2. Plan a daily homework time.

  3. Choose a quiet place to work.

  4. Write your name on all papers.

  5. Read and follow all directions.

  6. Do work neatly and carefully.

  7. Ask for help if needed, but do the work alone.

  8. Check your work.

  9. Put your homework back in your take home folder.

  10. Return your homework on time and be sure to hand it in.

During the school year we will have the following specials schedule:

 School and Home Reading

Each week (starting in November) your child will bring home a Book Bag with books (at his/her level) to read with the help from a parent.  To build fluency, expression and comprehension my suggestion is to read the books a few times throughout the week.  Please return both the book bag and any work inside on the due date.  This will not begin until November so be sure to keep your eyes open for more information on this to come!
