A warm welcome to 2nd grade! Please be assured that your child’s safety and comfort in the classroom is our top priority each and every school day. Our time together will be filled with learning about each other, respecting each other, and of course the curriculum!
“Be a Buddy and Not a Bully!” We will all follow these classroom rules:
-
Be Respectful
-
Be Responsible
-
Be Caring
-
Be Fair
-
Be Honest
By now, you should all be familiar with the following worthwhile websites. Please ask your teacher if you are not sure of your child’s access information.

Curriculum Updates and Goals:
-
Reading: We are implementing a balanced literacy program where we will do a Readers Workshop. In addition, our students will be working in small groups at their own instructional levels.
Writing: We are utilizing a Writers Workshop format throughout the year. We will cover such genres as: personal narrative, informational, persuasive, realistic fiction, poetry, and more.
-
Math: We are exploring different ways to write numbers and how to use place value to find the values of numbers. There will be Math homework most nights, due Tuesday through Friday. Please encourage your children to complete it independently. If they aren’t sure how to solve a problem, please remind them to try their best.
-
Science: This year, our little scientists are using a program called FOSS. It is directly aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) with a focus on STEAM activities.
-
Social Studies: Our focus will be on comparing our own community with that of others around the world.
-
Health: We are focusing on social and emotional learning that involves developing competencies of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making.
Please feel free to call us at school at 973-428-7572 or send an email if you have any concerns or questions throughout the year.
